Sequel to Yakuza Pride

Ex-Navy SEAL Brendan O’Farrihy enrolls in kendo classes to investigate a Honolulu dojo acting as a front for a yakuza syndicate. Or at least that’s what Brendan’s client, Senator Harris, believes. Through his kendo instructor, the cocky, short-fused, gorgeous Kinosuke Yonekawa, Brendan learns the criminals who are supposedly using the senator’s son, Kenneth, to expand their activities into the US, seem to have severed any yakuza connections. The jaded, soul-scarred former soldier is captivated by the loyalty these gangsters show each other and the way they protect Ken like a tight military unit. Brendan wonders why the senator lied to him, and what the yakuza are shielding Ken from.

When Ken disappears, Brendan suspects foul play and decides to help the man he is falling for, Kinosuke, and his friends, find Ken. But when Kinosuke discovers Brendan has been on the senator’s payroll, all bets are off.

The first book was a romance. The sequel is harder to categorize--there is a new romantic pairing, but that's only one plot of about a dozen going on. Equally important is our heros adjusting to life in Hawaii, Kotaro falling in with the wrong friends at school, the history between Brandon (the new MC) and his fellow former SEALs, a mystery surrounding Ken's family and a navy shipyard, a complex real estate con, and a big action-adventure rescue mission. It's fun and satisfying. It's just not what you may expect based on book 1.

There was a point, near the middle of the book, when I got overwhelmed by all the characters. Its almost everyone from book 1, PLUS the new main character Brandon and his SEAL buddies (and their extended families), PLUS Ken's large family, PLUS new characters like The Rat. I honestly got confused remembering who was who. But I'm glad I stuck with it. And I hope the author graces us with a final chapter that tells Kotaro and Bobcat's story.

Good but not as good as the first one.
I recently discovered both books and have spent many nights with my faced glued to my kindle. I loved the fact that this book gave more insight on the other characters that I came to know in book 1. Getting a chance to see Kinosuke's fall in love was both confusing and exciting and in my opinion made him much more likable. The story as a whole was full of intense romance and drama. I was a little upset to have finished. Such an awesome story, I never put my kindle down!
This is an awesome series, and I liked the first book just as much as this one. Very, very interesting characters and an excellent plot. I will be rereading both of these books, I just know it. Once was not enough for me.
Excellent work from this author! I also enjoyed the prequel to this book.

This book can be read as a stand alone but I would highly recommend reading the first book, Yakuza Pride, prior to reading this one. In Yakuza Pride, the background of this book is much more fleshed out and give the reader much more cultural implications (important for the mood of the books and the reason why the characters behave as they are).
I read this series based on another readers recommendation. Colourful, intense, amusing are a few adjectives that must be used to describe the series. The characters are alive, rich, interesting and memorable. I feel so sorry for Ken, he is always hurt but otherwise an adventurous exciting ride. Hope this author keeps producing.
I really enjoyed reading this book and the previous book (Yukuza Pride) in the series. Both are not only love stories but full of action with many twists in the plot. I especially enjoyed learning more about Japanese culture. It was so totally believable that I had a hard time believing it was fiction! I felt for Kinosuke and Brendan as they struggled with their feelings for each other. I’m going to put this author on my must have list. I hope she writes another book in this series. Highly recommended!!
I was deeply disappointed. The first book has well deserved my 5*, but this one.....
Characters are totally two-dimensional and quite unlikable, because they behave like a bunch of untrained, hormonal, irresponsible idiots (and they are supposedly ex-yakuza and ex-SEAL).
The quarrel over touchy pride, instead of getting things done, do not do the basic security things (if you KNOW someone powerful is after one of you, GUARD the building you are in, lock it, have security sweeps, cameras, alarm system, and do not let a idiot youngster (Kotaro) spill his guts to every passer-by. He REALLY should know better!!!!).
So all-in-all not recommended.
